Information About BSc IT

B.Sc I.T Full Form

B.Sc I.T Stands for Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.

What is B.Sc IT Course?

In India after completing 12 years of education which include ten years of school and two years of high school one can apply for bachelor degree from variety of streams and IT (Information Technology) is one of such stream.

B.Sc IT Course duration is 3 years in India and may vary up to 4 years in some other countries.

Like any other Bachelor Course BSc IT is also an Undergraduate Course.

Some Differences

  • Difference between BSc-IT (Information Technology) and BSc-CS (computer science):

    Generally this both courses have same duration but BSc-IT is more focused on applications of computer science.

    In computer science you can learn theory and will get questions like why? But in B.Sc IT you will get questions like how?

    For example if some programming language is structured in some way then computer science students will learn nuance of that structure and mathematical basis for that structure while BSc-IT students will learn syntax of that language and how they can exploit different features of language to create good software.

  • Difference Between BSc in IT and BE in IT :

    BE IT stands for Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology.

    Both BSc-IT and BE-IT have relatively same course content but BE IT takes 4 years to complete the degree and it requires engineering entrance test or some diploma background before taking admission while B.Sc-IT candidate become eligible on the marks secured in Mathematics.

Universities

There are many universities in India which offer Bachelor of Science Degree Course in Information Technology (B.Sc I.T), some of them are private universities and other are government approved.

It is possible that some private universities are not approved by official body. So make sure your university is accredited before taking admission. Also private universities lack in recognition so chances are you may not able to do further education or it may impose threat to your employment.

The content of course may differ according to university but not significantly.

Colleges

There are bunch of colleges from which you can acquire B.Sc Degree in I.T but they predominantly differ on the basis of universities they are affiliated to.

In India universities are divided according to geographical territory. For example in city like Mumbai one can pursue this course from college which is affiliated with Mumbai University on other hand in Bangalore you can opt same course from local university in Bangalore.

So in core University dictates course while respective colleges implement that course.

BSc IT Distance Education

Some universities offer BSc.IT degree through distance education program. In Distance Education student need not to take admission in any college to complete degree rather it allows student to study prescribed syllabus on his/her own and to give exam directly from university affiliated centers.

This is nice program if one does not wish to attend college to get degree. Also if you are financially incapable then this is ideal choice.

But again a details of this program differs between different universities and some universities may not keep this program as a part of their degree course.

Sometime this course is also known as BSc IT Correspondence.

BSc IT Course Structure

As stated earlier one can complete this course in 3 to 4 years of span but generally this course is divided into semesters. Each year comprise 2 semesters.

Each semester generally contains 5 to 6 subjects and for each subject there are assignments, practical/case study and theory exam at the end of semester.

In the last semester of course student has to create software/hardware project on the basis of knowledge gained in previous semesters.

Also last year exam is conducted by university and not by college. This means unique question paper for all students appearing for course irrespective of their college.

Skills after completing course

B.Sc I.T is more tilted towards application of computer science. It does not mean it has no theory whatsoever; rather it is combination of theory and applications.

There is good scope in B.Sc I.T if you are genuinely interested in information technology because you can learn different programming languages, database technologies, networking, electronics and much more. All this things will definitely help you to increase your horizon in the world of information technology and computer science.

Opportunities after B.Sc IT

After completing BSc in IT one can become capable of doing number of jobs in the realm of Information Technology. Still job profile depends upon overall skill set and practical knowledge one has gained in curriculum.

For example one can get designation like software developer, web designer, software tester, database administrator or network administrator.

Future Education Options

After completing BSc in I.T generally one can opt for master degree. This degree can be awarded in variety of streams such as Computer Science (MSc CS), Information Technology (MSc IT), Computer Applications (MCA) for instance.

There are various other career options available after completing BSc in IT but it depends on ones interest.

    1. There is no such thing like best college or university.
      As far as I know all colleges have more or less same level of teaching and hands on.
      It's up to you how much efforts you put in to understand and apply learned concepts.
      Any university is fine as long as it is affiliated with AICTE.

    1. Math has always troubled people :D
      BSc IT cover following aspects in mathematics
      Discrete Maths, Advanced Calculus, Linear Algebra and statistics.
      In my opinion knowledge of above is must for understanding computer science and it's applications.
      Make sure you have good grasp of basics.
      Take year break if you can just to level up your math skills and everything will be fine.
      Google : OCW, NPTEL for good content.

    1. Since BSc IT is application oriented course it's important to build something on your own rather than just taking courses and certifications.
      You can get knowledge from Internet, Books and off course from first hand experience.
